Use Boords from Claude, ChatGPT and other AI apps over MCP
Connect Boords to Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app so you can create and update your projects, scripts, storyboards and frames by asking in plain English.

Connections are in beta and included on every plan, including Free, at no extra cost. Usage limits may apply in future.
Boords runs an MCP server. MCP is an open standard that lets an AI app use the tools inside another product. Once you connect, you can ask things like "Turn this script into a storyboard" or "Summarise the unresolved comments on the launch film storyboard", and your AI app does the work in Boords for you.
A connection uses your own Boords account. Your AI app can see what you can see, across every team you belong to, including teams you join later. What it can change depends on your role:
See Team users and roles for how roles work.
You set up Connections in Settings → Team → Connections.
You'll need:
You don't need an API key. You sign in to Boords from your AI app and approve access once.
Boords is listed in Claude's connector directory. This works on claude.ai and in the Claude desktop app.
Boords now works in every Claude chat.
If you're in a Claude Team or Enterprise organization, an Owner or Primary Owner enables Boords for the organization first. If they haven't, click Request on the Boords listing to ask them. Each person then connects their own Boords account.
In ChatGPT, you add Boords as a custom MCP server. You don't need to turn on Developer mode.
In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins
Click the plus button, then Add custom MCP server
Name it Boords, and under Connection paste this URL:
https://app.boords.com/mcp
Choose OAuth for authentication
Tick I understand and want to continue on the warning, then click Create as a plugin. ChatGPT sends you to Boords to sign in and approve access
To use Boords in a chat, type @ and pick Boords. ChatGPT applies your pick to that message, so pick Boords again when you start new Boords work.
Which ChatGPT plans can add custom MCP servers, and whether they can make changes, is set by OpenAI. See OpenAI's guide to MCP apps in ChatGPT for the current rules. On a ChatGPT Business workspace, an admin or owner adds Boords for the workspace.
Open a terminal and run:
claude mcp add boords --scope user --transport http https://app.boords.com/mcp
Start Claude Code and type /mcp
Choose boords, then Authenticate. A browser tab opens for you to sign in to Boords and approve access
Boords now works in every Claude Code session.
Any tool that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in will work. Give it this server URL and choose OAuth if it asks how to sign in:
https://app.boords.com/mcp
When the tool asks you to sign in, use your Boords account and approve access.
When you connect, Boords shows an approval screen with the account you're signed in as and the access the app has asked for:
If an app hasn't been verified by Boords, you'll see a warning and need to confirm you started the connection yourself. Only continue if you did.
Your role still applies on top of the access you approve (see How Connections work). A connection stays active until you disconnect it or your AI app's sign-in expires.
With a connection, your AI app can work with:
Anything destructive, such as deleting a frame or a folder, needs an explicit confirmation before it runs.
Boords' own image generation, restyling, styles and webhook settings aren't available through a connection. Use the app for those, or the Boords API and webhooks for automation.
Every app you've connected is listed under Connected tools in Settings → Team → Connections, with its access level, when you connected it and when it was last used.
Click Disconnect to remove an app. It loses access to Boords immediately. To use it again, connect it from scratch.
Connections belong to you, not your team. Each teammate connects their own account, and you only see your own connections.
Your AI app has the same limits as your plan in the app. If you're on Free and hit the storyboard, frame or script limit, upgrade your plan and ask again.
Your AI app can only see what you can see in Boords. Check that you're a member of the team and project, and that you signed in with the right Boords account when you connected.
Check two things. First, your role: making changes through a connection needs an Owner, Admin or Full access role, and comments need Owner or Admin. Restricted members and guests can read only (see Team users and roles). Second, the connection's access level, shown under Connected tools in Settings → Team → Connections. A connection with Read access can't make changes.
If you're in a Claude Team or Enterprise organization, an Owner or Primary Owner has to enable Boords in your organization's connector settings first. Click Request on the Boords listing to ask them. If your organization doesn't allow directory connectors, ask an Owner to add Boords as a custom connector with the server URL https://app.boords.com/mcp.
Your connection may have been disconnected, or your AI app's sign-in may have expired. Sign in and approve access again from your AI app.
No. You sign in to Boords from your AI app and approve access once, and the connection runs on your own account. API keys are for the Boords API and won't work for a connection.
Connections are included on every plan, including Free, at no extra cost while they're in beta. Your AI app works within your plan's limits, so on Free it can create as many storyboards, frames and scripts as you can in the app.
Yes. Each teammate connects their own account, so their AI app only ever gets their permissions. There's no shared team connection to hand around.
Not yet. Your AI app can attach images to frames, including ones it made with another tool, but Boords' own image generation, restyling and styles aren't available through a connection. Use the AI image generator in the app for those.
Boords only returns what your AI app asks for, when you ask it, over the connection you approved. What Claude or ChatGPT then do with that data depends on your plan and settings with them, so check those if your clients have strict terms.
